Specialized Support for a More Comfortable Pregnancy & Birth

Prenatal Chiropractic Care in Saskatoon

Pregnancy brings significant changes to a person’s body, affecting everything from posture and balance to hormones and joint stability.

As the body adapts to support a growing baby, many individuals experience
  • Shifts in their spine and pelvis
  • Increased pressure on certain muscles
  • Discomfort in areas like the lower back, hips, and neck.
  • Hormonal changes can also loosen ligaments, making joints more prone to strain.

Dr. Njaa and Dr. Brockman have additional training in chiropractic care as it relates to these changes via the webster technique, which allows them to better understand and support the unique physical demands of pregnancy while helping patients maintain comfort and mobility throughout this important time.

Webster Technique: What is it?

The adjustment is gentle and low-force, often using a drop-table or activator instrument and never applies direct pressure to the baby.

Pregnant patients can comfortably lie face down with the support of specialized pregnancy pillows that accommodate the growing belly.

The goal is to restore proper neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis, reduce constraints within the uterus, and create more space for the baby to move freely. When the body is balanced, babies have more room to move naturally into the best possible position for birth.

How Does it Work?

The Webster Technique is a specialized chiropractic approach designed to support balance in the pelvis and surrounding muscles and ligaments during pregnancy. The focus is on restoring proper motion and alignment in the pelvis and sacrum as well as reducing surrounding soft tissue tension which helps create an optimal environment for both mom and baby.

Benefits During Pregnancy

The Webster Technique offers several potential advantages for expectant mothers:
  • Promotes optimal fetal positioning: By balancing the pelvis and reducing ligament tension, it helps create an ideal environment for the baby to assume a head-down (vertex) position, which may lower the chances of breech or malpresentation.
  • Relieves common pregnancy discomforts: Many women experience reduced lower back pain, sciatica, hip pain, and pelvic girdle discomfort after receiving the adjustment.
  • Enhances overall comfort and mobility: It helps maintain proper posture and nervous system function as the body undergoes rapid changes during pregnancy.
  • Supports easier labor and delivery: Improved pelvic alignment may contribute to better uterine function, reduced dystocia (difficult labor), and potentially shorter labor times with fewer interventions.

  • Sacrum: Treatment works to improve alignment and mobility of the sacrum, a critical bone at the base of the spine that influences pelvic balance
  • Piriformis: Addressing tension in the piriformis muscle because it can affect the sacrum and contribute to pelvic imbalance or sciatic discomfort
  • Sacrotuberous ligament: Targeting this key pelvic ligament helps to reduce tension that may impact sacral positioning and overall pelvic function
  • Pubic bone: The position and stability of the pubic symphysis is addressed as it can shift or become stressed during pregnancy.
  • Psoas: Releasing tension in the psoas muscle, a deep hip flexor that can influence pelvic alignment and may contribute to uterine constraint when tight.
  • Round ligaments: Easing tension in the round ligaments that support the uterus is important as it can become strained as it expands during pregnancy.
